Frequently Asked Questions about Lift Chairs

How long does it take for me to get my chair?

It depends on where the chair is being shipped to. But all lift chairs are made to order at Med-Lift's factory in northern Mississippi and then shipped by truck freight to its final destination. You can expect about 4-5 business days to make a chair. Then add truck freight time to the destination. Most folks receive their chairs between 1-1/2 and 2 weeks after their order is processed, give or take a few days.

What kind of delivery options are available?

If you order a Med-Lift chair through Jansen Medical Supply, shipping is always included in the purchase price. The trucking company will take your chair to your front door, garage, or wherever you can accept it. However, the trucking company will not come into your home, will not take the chair up stairs, and will not take it out of its shipping box for you. The chairs ship fully assembled and are ready to use out of the box, but someone able bodied needs to be able to take the chair into the home and place it where it needs to be. The chairs are not any heavier than any other type of recliner (weighing up to 125 pounds), but they can be bulky.

NEW - we now are pleased to offer our lift chair customers the option of White Glove Inside Delivery as an optional upgrade. For $125.00 (higher in certain areas of the country), the trucking company will (1) schedule a delivery appointment with a 4-hour delivery window; (2) deliver the chair inside the home and place the chair in the room of choice; (3) deliver the chair to the main and/or second level (up or down one flight of stairs); and (4) unpack the chair and remove all packaging materials from the home.

Can we return a lift chair after we have purchased it?

In a word, "No." Our lift chairs are built to order by Med Lift & Mobility, who is the finest, and has the best customer service, of any lift chair manufacturer in the country. However, we have had customers ask for refunds, not because of the quality of the chairs, but because: 1) "The chair didn't exactly match my curtains"; 2) "The chair measures 18 1/2" from the floor instead of 19"" and 3) "The chair won't fit the turntable that I built for it..." Because those folks at the factory are so nice, they worked with us to get partial refunds for these customers, but we cannot ask them to do it anymore. We would love to sell you a lift chair; we think you will find that it is the highest quality, best made chair in the world today. However, if you order it, it is yours, and all sales are final.

What makes the Med-Lift chair frame so strong?

Med-Lift uses solid Oak for their frames. Every joint is glued and stapled. Our seat and back frame is a one-piece C&C Routed design. Med-Lift's Uni-Construction seat/back assembly is the strongest available in any lift chair.

Med-Lift's frame was recently tested by the independent furniture testing division at Mississippi State University and declared "unbreakable" by all their testing standards. This new Uni-Construction is like none other in the industry.

How long should I expect my new Med-Lift chair to last?

Med-Lift receives correspondence from customers regularly, letting them know how happy they've been with their Med-Lift lift chair. Most of these are from customers who have had their chairs for more than five years, some even as far back as 1990, when Med-Lift started in business.

To answer the question, with proper care, your Med-Lift product is designed to give years of service, even far past the warranty period.

What is the difference between AC & DC Motors?

For many years all lift chairs used AC motors, which were 120-volt motors, with 120 volt hand controls. Now a large number of lift chairs have the DC motor (low volt), where the chair is plugged in to a 120 volt power outlet and there is a transformer between the plug and the motor, which reduces the voltage in the chair to 24 volts. There is a difference of opinions as to which motor is stronger or lasts longer. From Med-Lift's experience, there is no noticeable difference. The main difference is the DC (low volt) is much quieter.

What is rechargeable battery backup?

Battery backup is on most DC low volt motors. It consists of usually two 9-volt batteries, sometimes located on the motor, but most times in the transformer. These batteries will bring the chair out of the reclined position in case of a power outage. The negative is, after using the batteries one time, or at least once a year, the batteries must be replaced. In Med-Lift's experience, most people forget to replace the batteries and the next time they need to use them, they will not work.

Med-Lift's suggestion is to purchase the rechargeable battery backup option with your low volt motor. This way you never have to change batteries, and the backup will not only get you from the reclined position, but will work the lift position also, for several cycles, not just one. Note: rechargeable battery backup does not work with the heat and vibrate or Ultra-Ezz massage systems.

What is the difference between vibrator and massage?

Most manufacturers, including Med-Lift, have offered vibrators & heat options on their chairs. Some people call these small vibrators a massage systems. To be labeled massage, the action has to be more intense. The Ultra Ezz III massage system offered by Med-Lift is a true massage system. Ultra Ezz III is an all direction massage system with varying degrees of intensity controlled by the user. Nothing on the market compares to the Ultra Ezz III massage system.

Are Chair sizes important?

It is very important that the lift chair fits the individual who is going to be using the chair. If the lift chair is too large, then a shorter person's feet will not be on the floor when the chair is in the full lift position which makes it difficult for the person to get out of the chair safely. It is important that seat height from the floor, the seat depth, and the seat width be matched to the person using the chair. One size does not fit all!
